Jamie Vardy’s incredible rise to the top has culminated with his inclusion in the England national squad for Euro 2016.
Jamie Vardy will be pivotal to England’s hopes of success
Adam Lallana and Jamie Vardy spoke to the press ahead of next week’s showdown with Slovakia, as reported by ESPN, after England took a huge stride towards qualification for the knockout stages of the Euros with a 2-1 victory over Wales in Lens on Thursday.
Most of the nation were left baffled as to why Vardy was once again omitted from the starting line-up, with Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane looking jaded.
The Leicester City man’s rise to fame has taken an alternative path to most modern day footballers.
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy has gone from strength to strength over the past year
In 2011 he was playing non-league football for Halifax Town, and five years later he can call himself a Premier League winner.
Vardy is very much a unique talent, not only in the fact that he has peaked so late in his career, but in how he goes about maintaining his peak fitness. He spoke to reporters following being pictured holding a can of Red Bull, as reported by ESPN:
“If I go in the gym it will slow me down. I don’t go in for weights or anything like that. People have tried to persuade me and not succeeded. Each and every person is different and this is my way. I’m sure if someone else tried doing what I do then it probably wouldn’t work for them. It’s not a regular thing whereby I have one every morning. It’s just something I felt I needed that day.”
Adam Lallana hailed Vardy’s ability
Vardy’s sentiments were echoed by England teammate Adam Lallana, who said everyone has their own unique way of preparing, and highlighted how dangerous the Foxes striker is on the pitch:
“I think everyone is unique in different ways. Everyone has their little traits they do, in the gym or what they do off the pitch or before a game — but Vards is Vards, he is a defender’s nightmare.”
England fans will be hoping Vardy continues his fine form and helps England into the latter stages of the tournament.
Many pundits have urged Roy Hodgson to start Vardy against Slovakia
