Rangers star Steven Davis has delivered an update on Instagram after surgery to correct a knee issue which has ruled the Ibrox star out for the rest of the season – prompting reaction from Daniel Candeias and Adam Lallana on his post.

Davis, 38, featured as a substitute in Michael Beale’s first game in charge – a 3-2 win over Hibernian. But immediately after the game, the 128-time Northern Ireland international went for a scan on his knee. The injury required surgery.

The ex-Fulham midfielder has now been ruled out for the rest of the season. With his contract due to expire, and given he is now 38 years of age, his future has been thrown into doubt. But Michael Beale has a plan for Davis going forward.

Indeed, Beale says that Rangers have a plan in place for Davis – whether that is a coaching role, or a role that allows him to continue playing next season, it remains to be seen. Davis took to Instagram to deliver an update after surgery.

It is a blow for Rangers. The Ibrox side lack an enormous amount of midfield options. John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and James Sands are options. But the Gers are expected to be in the market to improve their midfield options.

Everton’s Tom Davies has been strongly linked – with Beale himself commenting on the links with the Toffees player. But for Davis, he will have to watch from the sidelines with doubts remaining regarding his future beyond the summer.

Plenty have responded to Davis’ post – including his manager Beale, who posted a heart emoji. Leeds man Stuart Dallas – who is a Rangers fan – responded. As did Candeias and Brighton ace Lallana, who played with Davis at Southampton.
