Adam Lallana held his hands up and confessed that his view on Manchester United captain Harry Maguire had been altered.

Writing for the Times, Lallana acknowledged how he now looked at the Red Devils defender in a different light.

Many people might also share the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder’s outlook on Maguire, due to his performances at the European Championships.

The 28-year-old has been at the heart of England’s success throughout the tournament, especially from a defensive standpoint.

Gareth Southgate’s side have only conceded once and that was from a fine freekick in the semi-final win against Denmark.

Jordan Pickford has already secured the Golden Glove award, which he may want to share with those protectors in front of him.

Maguire certainly deserves a slice of the prize for his contribution towards three clean sheets.

Lallana loving Maguire

Lallana honestly stated that he held the United skipper in even higher regard because of his Euro displays.

“I misjudged Harry Maguire,” said the Brighton star.

“I don’t mind admitting that. I have always thought he was a very good player, but what this tournament has shown me, and hopefully others, is that he is at the next level: a proven world-class defender.

“He has blown me away with the standards he has reached.

“His reading of the game has been superb and I have enjoyed the moments where he has just stepped in front of an opponent to pinch the ball, leaving the striker wondering where he came from.

“He has been playing brave, high-quality football. He’s been a colossus.”

Lallana is certainly not alone in his praise for Maguire.

Jose Mourinho and John Stones have both recently lauded the Old Trafford centre-back.

His last task is to try and silence Italy in the final, which is being held at Wembley on Sunday.

Robert Mancini’s men have themselves been a tight-knit unit, letting in three goals during the competition.

Like England with Maguire, the Azzurri can call upon Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini to solidify their back-line.
