Adam Forshaw shares what Leeds fans are always saying to him

Adam Forshaw has joked that there is one subject that Leeds United fans always bring up when they see him.

Adam Forshaw has joked to BBC Radio Leeds that his wait for a goal is all that Leeds supporters talk to him about when they see him, but insisted that he was happy that Patrick Bamford was able to finish the chance at the weekend.

The 27-year-old has now made 46 league appearances for the Whites, but is yet to find the back of the net for the club. With Gaetano Berardi looking prolific in comparison – he has now scored two goals in 132 appearances – the fans’ attention has largely switched to Forshaw’s drought.

It had appeared that his run would come to an end in the 2-0 win at former club Wigan on Saturday. But he managed to hit the post from close range. Luckily for Leeds, the ball then fell to Bamford, who had a simple task finishing off the opportunity. Forshaw would also come close after the break.

And after helping Leeds see off another of his old sides on Wednesday night, Forshaw admitted that he would love to get his name on the scoresheet at long last, but insisted that he is happier while the team is winning.

He told BBC Radio Leeds: “It’s everything anyone says to me when they see me in the street at the moment. ‘Are you going to score that goal or what?’

“So I want it to be a part of my game. It’s not the be-all and end-all. Honestly, I was so pleased that it fell to Pat on the weekend and he put it away. You always want your number nine scoring goals.

“Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have minded a goal myself, but that’s the truth. I’m a team player and at the end of the day, we won the game, so it’s not about me scoring the goal.”

In fairness to Forshaw, it is probably fair to say that he has actually proved to be one of the best performers in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad at the start of this season. His performances in the middle of the park have been crucial to Leeds enjoying success with the system that they play, and there were plenty of supporters who felt that he was man of the match in the 1-0 win over Brentford.

And if he continues to perform as he is, and the team continue to collect wins and put themselves at and around the Championship summit, then he probably will not mind too much if the fans continue to have reason to ask when he is finally going to find the back of the net.
