The 26-year-old midfielder is the only Championship-experienced player to have joined Leeds in the January transfer window so far and such a big price-tag means that the pressure is certainly on him to perform in West Yorkshire.
But the former Middlesbrough man has suggested that the pressure of a certain off-the-pitch ritual had been dominating his thoughts after joining United: the dreaded initiation song.
Forshaw sang Stand By Me in front of his team-mates during the warm weather training camp in Spain last week – an experience which he claimed was ‘ruining his week’ prior to getting it over with.
Speaking via Leeds’ official Facebook page, he said: “I sang Stand By Me.
“I tried to get one that everyone would join in on and clap along to make it a bit eaiser. It’s the worst thing you can ever do but I’m glad it’s over with. It was ruining my week. to be honest.”
Forshaw replaces Mateusz Klich in Thomas Christiansen’s squad and Leeds fans will be hoping that the new man is a tad more influential than the Polish midfielder.
Klich joined FC Utrecht on a half-season loan last week after struggling to dislodge the likes of Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips in midfield since joining.
But Forshaw, with his experience in the second tier, should be capable of making bigger statements to Christiansen than Klich.
