Leeds United’s Gaetano Berardi will likely be even more frustrated soon.
You have to feel sorry for Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi – and even more so now.
The Swiss is a hugely popular figure among the Elland Road faithful, but he has only played seven minutes of senior football for Leeds since October due to injury.
With Pontus Jansson sidelined for the Whites’ next two games [The Yorkshire Evening Post], it looked like Berardi would step into central defence as cover.
But a recent claim by Adam Forshaw means the 30-year-old is probably about to get even more unlucky.
Forshaw, a £4.5 million signing by the Yorkshire side [The Daily Mail], told LUTV on Friday that he expects to be available for United’s visit of Millwall next Saturday, after spending a month on the sidelines.
This is significant because now Marcelo Bielsa has the option to bring Forshaw – a player he likes a lot – back into midfield and deploy Kalvin Phillips as a centre-back, leaving Berardi stuck on the bench again.
Bielsa will have no qualms whatsoever about using Phillips as a central defender. He has dazzled here throughout the season and the Argentine will likely prefer him beside Liam Cooper than Berardi.
It’s been a very frustrating season for the veteran Leeds rock, but it’s about to get even more frustrating.
