Stoke City’s Adam Davies was linked with Birmingham City, Hull City and Bristol City.

New Stoke City signing Adam Davies may now be regretting his move to the Bet365 Stadium as he finds himself featuring for the U23s while question marks remain over the future of manager Nathan Jones.
Davies was instrumental for Barnsley during their promotion to the Championship last term. He set a record for League One clean sheets for the Tykes, prompting plenty of interest in his signature.
According to the Stoke Sentinel, Birmingham City, Hull City and Bristol City were all keen on the goalkeeper as his contract expiry at Barnsley made him one of the most sought-after Championship players this summer.
Stoke ultimately won the race, with many tipping him to become Jack Butland’s replacement.
The situation at the Bet365 Stadium, however, has become somewhat of a mess. Stoke were expected to sell Butland to a Premier League club. Both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace were linked, but no deal materialised.
Stoke have subsequently started the season in terrible form. They’ve picked up just one point from their opening five games, and Butland produced a horror show in last week’s defeat at Preston North End.
Butland made crucial errors, and he was later dropped for last weekend’s 3-0 home defeat to Leeds United. Was this the chance for Davies to finally get his break? No, as Adam Federici was instead handed the starting role.

Davies has only managed to make an appearance for Stoke’s U23 side. He is currently third choice with the Potters, and it is some step down from breaking records at Barnsley last term.
Birmingham, Hull and Bristol City were all said to be keen on signing him. All three are currently above Stoke in the table, with the Robins showing early signs of another Championship playoff push.
