Adam Bogdan has told The Echo that he’s ‘in love’ with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino as a player.
The Brazilian attacker is arguably the unsung hero of Jurgen Klopp’s side, being less prolific than Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in the goalscoring stakes, but equally as important.
Bogdan, released by Liverpool this past summer, joined the Reds in the same transfer window as Firmino, who moved from Hoffenheim in a £29 million deal in 2015 [BBC].
And the Hungarian goalkeeper could tell there was something a bit special about Firmino from day one from how he played in training.
He told The Echo: “I’m in love with the game of Firmino. He’s such a key player for Liverpool. You could tell (he was special).
“He got injured when I made my debut with his back so it took him a few weeks to come back.
“For him, Jurgen Klopp came in and knew him from Germany and that was a really key factor. He was aware of his abilities, what he could get out of him and it fitted perfectly with the system that Klopp wanted to play.
“You can see it in training. The touch, the passes, the turns, you can’t take the ball away from him, the attitude – everything.”
For £29 million, it’s safe to say that Firmino was an absolute bargain addition by Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irish manager didn’t get to play him that often, being sacked a few months into Firmino’s first season, but what a legacy all the same.
