Adam Armstrong was loaned out by Newcastle United last season.
Adam Armstrong has reiterated his desire to be in Newcastle United’s first-team next season in the Coventry Observer.
Newcastle allowed Armstrong to leave on loan last term, and he made the most of his temporary spell away from St. James’ Park.
The 19-year-old striker blasted in 20 goals for Coventry in League One, and he won the Sky Blues’ Young Player of the Season award.
Armstrong has repeatedly stated how much he has enjoyed his time with Coventry, but next season he is determined to break into Rafael Benitez’s first-team at Newcastle.
“Getting on the pitch at St James’ Park was massive for me being from Newcastle. Newcastle is my club at the minute and that’s who I want to play for,” he said.
“I want to work really hard in pre-season and try and get into the gaffer’s mind and we’ll see what happens next season.”
Armstrong’s performances while on loan at Coventry have increased the calls for him to be involved in Newcastle’s first-team.
The Magpies are set to be playing Championship football, meaning the jump in standard for Armstrong should not as vast as it would have been if Newcastle were still playing in the top flight.
Armstrong still faces a challenge to break into Newcastle’s first-team, though, as Benitez’s attacking options are strong.
The likes of Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse could all stay at St. James’ Park, as Newcastle are under no pressure to sell, despite their relegation.
