Some Arsenal fans on Twitter are absolutely raving about Thomas Partey’s latest performance.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder played 90 minutes as Diego Simeone’s side drew 0-0 at home to Unai Emery’s Villarreal.

There were a lot of Arsenal eyes on Simeone’s team sheet, amid speculation that the Gunners are close to signing the 27-year-old midfielder.

But he was included in the first XI, despite reports that Lucas Torreira is on the brink of joining Atleti from the Emirates Stadium club.

If a deal is agreed for Partey – rated at £45 million – it will be totally unrelated to Torreira moving to the Spanish capital.

The Ghanaian powerhouse starred today and clocked 110 touches of the ball – more than any other player on the field [WhoScored].

He is known as a no-nonsense defensive midfielder, but Partey impressed in terms of distribution today, attempting 10 through balls and 15 long balls, managing 94 passes in total.

And suffice to say that Arsenal fans really want him in North London:

Will they get him? Well, time is of the essence here. The transfer window shuts in less than 48 hours and there’s no more time for dithering

Arsenal simply have to stump up the £45 million needed to get him.
