Chris Sutton has admitted that Tottenham signing Yves Bissouma for £25 million from Brighton ‘actually surprised me’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former striker added that, in today’s modern transfer market, Daniel Levy paying that sort of fee for the midfielder is ‘next to nothing’.

Bissouma had one-year left on his contract at the Amex Stadium, with Levy backing Antonio Conte for the third time this summer by bringing the Mali international to the club.

The 25-year-old joins goalkeeper Fraser Forster and winger Ivan Perisic in north London, with suggestions that more players could yet still be added.

Nonetheless, this is what Sutton had to say regarding Tottenham’s call to bring Bissouma to the club this summer and the deal that transpired.

“That actually surprised me,” said Sutton. “That must have been in this contract? Or whatever. That £25 million.

“But, in this day and age, £25 million for Bissouma seems next to nothing for the qualities that he has – Tottenham have come in and Bissouma has had his head turned.”

DANIEL LEVY LETTING THE TRANSFERS DO THE TALKING

Ever since Mauricio Pochettino elevated Spurs into Champions League regulars, many questioned why the soon-to-depart PSG coach wasn’t backed enough by Levy in the boardroom.

More proven players, depth and quality were needed, before they reached the Champions League final in Madrid, nevermind after it.

But that didn’t happen and Spurs stagnated thereafter, but since Conte has stepped foot in the dugout, it has been a different story with Levy now backing the Italian.

The Spurs chairman has had a number of critics in recent times, but for once, he is letting the club’s transfer business do the talking ahead of their return to the Champions League.
