It looks like Celtic have just lost a cult figure.
Jonny Hayes revealed on Instagram on Friday that he’d be ending his three-year career at Parkhead.
The Republic of Ireland was out of contract at Celtic this summer anyway and it appears as if no extension will be agreed.
It remains to be seen whether the Hoops offered him a new contract and Hayes rejected, or whether there was no new deal on the table to begin with.
Either way, quite a few Bhoys fans on Twitter are upset to see the Irishman leave. Here’s how they reacted to the departure on social media.
In terms of attitude and application, Hayes ticked a lot of boxes and that’s one of the reasons why the supporters are sad to see him go.
Another reason is because he scored against Rangers at Ibrox back in September, something that’ll always endear him to the Celtic faithful.
Brendan Rodgers brought the former Aberdeen winger to Glasgow in 2017 for £1.3 million.
