From beyond the footballing grave, Unai Emery could still hurt Arsenal it seems.
The Gunners sacked their former head coach in November after the wheels came off their season in spectacular fashion.
At the time of his dismissal, Arsenal were eight points adrift in the race for Champions League qualification, during their worst period of results since 1992.
The Spaniard had led the team to a Europa League final some six months before being fired, but it appears as if he lost the dressing room and once that happens, it’s Goodnight Irene.
One Arsenal player who he didn’t lose, however, was goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
The Argentine was one of the few players to publicly acknowledge Emery’s sacking on Twitter, and then congratulated his former coach last month when Villarreal hired him.
And according to The Telegraph, Emery is interested in bringing the linked-away keeper to Spain.
Martinez has been a bonafide star of Mikel Arteta’s reign in North London, perhaps the stand-out player with the exception of maybe Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But with Bernd Leno fit again, the 27-year-old is being linked with a move away from the Emirates and here’s how Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to the idea of Emery poaching him.
