Newcastle United fans were left annoyed that Arsenal weren’t awarded a penalty during the London side’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
It was probably a sense of Déjà vu for Newcastle supporters yesterday because they watched Ederson probably get away with another challenge that he should have been punished for.
Only a number of weeks ago, Ederson wiped out Ryan Fraser from inside the penalty area at St James’ Park, but nothing was awarded.
Well, Arsenal felt that same anger and frustration at the Emirates yesterday in what turned out to be a controversial showdown in north London.
The Gunners felt that Manchester City’s £35 million keeper (BBC Sport) fouled Martin Odegaard as he was running with the ball inside the penalty area.
But just like at St James’ Park, both the on-field referee and VAR thought that nothing should have been awarded.
For Newcastle, whilst they were thumped by the Premier League champions, it wasn’t the case for Mikel Arteta’s side yesterday.
Not only did they take the lead during the game, but Rodri also scored a stoppage-time winner to rub salt into the Arsenal wounds.
Newcastle fans made it clear that Ederson, once again, got away with his actions and he should have been punished.
That’s 11 wins on the bounce for Pep Guardiola’s men and even they can’t argue that they haven’t had their fair share of luck during that period.
Here is a selection of Newcastle supporters reactions to Ederson’s challenge on Odegaard yesterday after they were on the end of the same treatment:
