Carlos Carvalhal is under mounting pressure at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday may need to act fast if they are to appease some of their disgruntled fanbase.
Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat at lowly Birmingham – without a win in eight games or clean sheet in seven – was the final straw for many, after back-to-back play-off exits and an uninspiring start to the new campaign – exacerbated by Sunday’s Steel City derby embarrassment.

But if the Owls are to dispose of Carlos Carvalhal, as many are now calling for them to do, they appear to be running out of time to appoint Aitor Karanka – the preferred choice of several on Twitter – as the 51-year-old’s replacement.
According to a report on page 60 of Thursday’s Sun newspaper, Karanka is ‘close to a deal’ to become Birmingham’s manager instead.
It is claimed the former Middlesbrough boss will watch Wednesday’s latest victors in action at Hull on Saturday, and ‘seems willing’ to succeed Harry Redknapp at St Andrew’s.

A call from Hillsborough before then, however, could convince him otherwise.
Is there any way back for Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday?
