A lot has been made of Tottenham’s finances as of late, and to be fair, their latest accounts made for grim reading.
As has every club, Tottenham have been hit hard by the pandemic, no fans means that matchday revenues are almost non-existent and as you can imagine, that has affected their finances.
However, unlike every other club, Spurs have an ace up their sleeve that could give them an edge in a post-pandemic transfer market.
Indeed, Spurs’ new stadium still needs a name, and with Football London reporting that a deal to sponsor the ground could be worth more than £250m, this is a revenue stream that Spurs will benefit massively from.
The best thing is that Tottenham are in a wholly unique situation in that they have this brand-new state of the art stadium that can be used for a multitude of events including concerts, NFL games and other sporting events, and despite the fact none of those things can be hosted in front of spectators at the moment, a naming rights deal would still be lucrative.

There aren’t many other clubs in the world who have this sort of revenue stream open to them at the moment.
Yes, other clubs have naming rights deals that pay heartily, but many of those will have been negotiated a long time ago, and with the Premier League only growing as a product and as a brand, Tottenham are in a strong position here.
The post-pandemic transfer market will be a unique one. Clubs across Europe are desperate for cash, for example, in France, the issue over broadcasting rights has left a number of clubs in financial peril, and while that’s never good to see, that’s something Premier League clubs can take advantage of due to their relatively strong position with broadcast revenues not falling in England.
There are certainly bargains to be had, so a cash injection for Spurs from the naming rights deal could come at the perfect time and provide Daniel Levy a way to give Tottenham a post-pandemic transfer edge.
