Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been giving his analysis on Arsenal’s signing of Leandro Trossard.
The Gunners made Trossard their first signing of the winter transfer window this week, but almost everyone is aware that the Belgian wasn’t the Gunners’ top choice.
Indeed, the north London club had initially been looking to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk, but after Chelsea hijacked their deal for the Ukrainian winger, they had to turn towards Trossard.
Wright is of the opinion that this could well be a happy accident for Arsenal, stating that he believes his club has stumbled upon a ‘fantastic deal’.

Trossard a great deal
Wright spoke about this transfer.
“We need it to happen now for the players Arsenal are bringing in, this is like when you accidentally do something and you’re saying ‘oh we’ve got Trossard but we could’ve done that’, but this can work, easily,” Wright said.
“Trossard makes sense with the money, even if Arsenal had to pay more on a weekly basis for Trossard, I don’t think that matters because you have to make these decisions.”
“We need that type of player, that age, that experience. I think he will be welcomed into the group as well because the players will look at him and say ‘yes man, I don’t like playing against him’.
“I think we have stumbled upon a really fantastic deal for us.”
Impactful
In the long-term, Mykhaylo Mudryk may well prove to be the better player than Trossard. After all, he’s 22 years old and the sky seems to be the limit with the youngster.
However, in terms of current ability, there really aren’t many better than Trossard.
Yes, his ceiling is lower than a promising youngster like Mudryk, but Arsenal don’t need players for the future. They’re in a title race right now, and Trossard can seriously contribute to that.
We may well be looking at one of the better January signings here.
