Academy coach says one reported Celtic transfer ‘could be happening’

Simon Ferry said on the Go Radio Football Show (5pm start, August 14, 2020) that he has heard that Shane Duffy could join Celtic in the summer transfer window.

According to The Daily Mail, Celtic are interested in signing Duffy from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window.

The report has credited West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion with interest in the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international as well.

Former Celtic youth player Ferry, who now works as Under-10 Junior Academy Coach at the Bhoys and is also the host of the Open Goal podcast, has said that Duffy could join Neil Lennon’s side this summer.

Ferry said on the Go Radio Football Show (5pm start, August 14, 2020), as transcribed by GlasgowLive: “I’ve heard that it could be happening, I’ve heard that Shane Duffy is a possibility. I think he has spoken to Celtic and for me it’s exactly the type of centre-half Celtic need.

“He’s not great on the ball, I’ll be honest, you could probably tell him that yourself.

“But aggressive, big, strong, wants to defend – I think that’s exactly the type that Jullien and Ajer need next to them.”

Good signing for Celtic?

Duffy is a very good central defender who has a wealth of experience, and the 28-year-old would make an instant impact at Celtic.

Although the Glasgow giants have a strong team, they could do with some strengthening at the back.

The 28-year-old has fallen down in the pecking order at Brighton, and the former Everton man could be open to a move to Celtic, who are aiming to make it 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row this season.
