Georginio Wijnaldum admits that Jurgen Klopp can be difficult sometimes – but it’s to the benefit of the Liverpool squad.
Georginio Wijnaldum has been one of a few Liverpool players to surprise this season after their summer recruitment.
The Dutchman has started all seven games of Liverpool’s perfect start to the season – something few thought was possible in the summer when there was even talk that he may be sold, although the decision makers at the club were reportedly surprised themselves at those rumours, according to Goal.
The arrivals of Fabinho and Naby Keita haven’t got in the way of Wijnaldum’s place at Anfield. In fact, he sees it as only positive, telling the Mirror: “I think it’s good that there are a lot of good players here as when you train with them it makes you automatically get better.”
Wijnaldum also spoke on the intensity of working under Jurgen Klopp, admitting that it can be ‘difficult for the players’ but is undoubtedly a good thing.
“Sometimes it’s difficult for the players because he sees everything and he always has an opinion about everything, but he only does it to make you better.
“He is also a very emotional coach during the game and even during training, but I’m very happy with that because since I’ve been here he has made me a better player and I don’t think I speak only for myself but also for the other players.”
It’s some good insight into the culture and mentality at Liverpool; working under Klopp is intense and he doesn’t let up, but if you can handle that, you’ll become a better player.
And few seem to typify the understanding of that better than Wijanldum – written off by some, he’s settled in, accepted the challenge, and is proving the doubters wrong.
