West Ham United’s appointment of Manuel Pellegrini is a real sign that they can make waves in the Premier League.

West Ham United have long shown the potential to be a genuine threat in the Premier League only to somehow hold themselves back. Now, however, things look very promising indeed.

The appointment of serial winner Manuel Pellegrini is the most exciting event at West Ham in a long time, certainly out-doing the move to the London Stadium.

The switch was always a bittersweet move – although far more bitter than sweet so far – as well as having a long-term effect on the club. It has also suffered greatly from one thing: West Ham have not been very good there thus far.

The ground is unlikely to ever be a perfect fit for football and most accepted that long ago, but it still has the potential to be a great ground for the Hammers. It is easy to see what a stadium that size could become if it had a good side playing in it.

And that is where the attacking, successful football of Pellegrini comes in. The Argentine won two championships in his homeland before an incredible job with Villarreal saw him take the side to new heights.

Villarreal, a team with no real history of success, finished third and second under his management, also reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2006. Pellegrini took Real Madrid to a record points haul and won three trophies in three years with Manchester City, breaking the English goal record in the process.

West Ham now have a serious manager, one with a stature they have never had before, looking to generate the biggest buzz at the club in years.

The Hammers have got the stadium, they have got the passion, and now they have got the football. In short, West Ham are finally moving up in the world.
