Tottenham Hotspur might just have an easier window thanks to a World Cup that has seen several stars flourish.
The progress of Tottenham Hotspur over the last five years has been fantastic as the club moved from one on the outside looking in, to being a regular Champions League team.
But despite being an established part of the ‘top six’, the one area they have still struggled to keep up is in attracting players.
Tottenham did not get to where they are through investment, like with Manchester City or Chelsea, nor do they have a long history of success like Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal, leaving them at a disadvantage compared to others.
The way this World Cup has gone, however, might have turned the tide somewhat.
No team has more players at the semi-final stage than Tottenham; a total of nine Spurs players are still hoping to win the trophy, at least two more than anyone else.
Not only that, but they have players in important roles for their teams – Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, and Dele Alli are all in starring roles for England, Jan Verthongen and Toby Alderweireld are fixtures of Belgium’s defence, while Hugo Lloris captains France.
Seeing the development of these players – as well of the likes of Luka Modric and Kyle Walker – into World Cup stars must surely turn the heads of prospective signings; this is a club where you can put a stamp on the world game.
So when Tottenham are looking to fight for the likes of reported targets Steven N’zonzi or Bruno Fernandes, they no longer have to worry about being a far more attractive proposition. It is a place players will definitely want to be.
