AC Milan’s Leonardo Bonucci could be a historic signing for Tottenham Hotspur as a replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

As devastating as that is for the rebuild in Milan, it does present an opportunity for Tottenham Hotspur if they’re willing to take it.
As has been widely reported, Toby Alderweireld is almost certain to leave Spurs this summer, with Manchester United reportedly very interested – although the Manchester Evening News suggests that deal will take considerable movement on either side.

The captain of Milan, Leonardo Bonucci, would be the perfect replacement for Alderweireld, offering Spurs not only a top-class defender but the elite experience they sorely lack.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were found wanting in the Champions League this season after Juventus took advantage of lapses in concentration to knock them out.
Bonucci, at 31 years old and with bags of experience at an elite level, would improve Spurs immeasurably – and would surely be interested in such a move, considering the stall at Milan.

It’s hard to believe that he could demand a higher fee than whatever is eventually received for Alderweireld, allowing Tottenham to replace a player for potential profit and improve as well.
Bonucci would have several suitors should he push for a move, that’s a certainty, but Spurs can offer him an important role in a side looking to be ambitious this season.
Pull it off and Tottenham can really start dreaming.
