Everton face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, having not tasted victory there since 1999.
It’s the Merseyside derby on Sunday as Everton make the very short trip to Anfield in their latest attempt to win on a ground for the first time this century.
That’s quite an astonishing statistic considering some of the Everton sides since, but their last Premier League game at Anfield of the 20th century remains the last time they’ve won there.
That game was settled by a Kevin Campbell goal and featured three red cards – Sander Westerveld and Steven Gerrard were both sent off for Liverpool, while Francis Jeffers walked for Everton.
Twenty visits have come and gone without another victory, but Sunday’s game could represent the Toffees best chance in a long time.
There’s no denying that Liverpool have played well this season – they are undefeated in second place, after all – but they haven’t looked like quite the same team as last year.
They’ve had many narrow wins this season against the likes of Brighton, Huddersfield, and Crystal Palace, while their defeat to Red Star showed that things aren’t running as smoothly as they could be.
That’s not to say that Liverpool are going to be a pushover – far from it, and they’ll enter as favourites – although Everton’s form suggests they’ll go to Anfield capable of getting something.
Marco Silva’s side have won five of their last seven, narrowly losing at Old Trafford and unfortunate not to win away at Chelsea.
Add in the fact that Liverpool have a huge game away at Paris Saint-Germain four days prior and suddenly Everton look very capable.
They can head to Anfield with confidence, knowing that they do have what it takes to get a win and that the opportunity is there.
That confidence could make all the difference and might just be enough to see a bit of history made this weekend.
