Tottenham Hotspur made the decision not to sign back up for Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min this summer.

An awful lot was made about Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to not make any signings this summer, one of the very few teams in all of Europe who didn’t.
It was a show of faith in their front line, in particular, considering the numerous attempts in recent years to add to it.
However, it was also a massive gamble, considering Son Heung-Min’s impending Asian Cup appearances after the World Cup and Harry Kane’s incredible amount of football in the previous year.
When Kane was injured last season, it was Son who stood up and filled the void of their leading man, meaning his absence this year was a show of faith in Kane’s ability to shrug off any fitness issues and deliver the goals.
He has been unable to do that, unfortunately and, while Lucas Moura has stepped up with some very important strikes of his own, Dele Alli’s absence over Tottenham’s last two games has left them without real threat up top.

If Kane was firing and Alli was available, you can bet that Spurs would have looked an awful lot better over their last three games (all defeats) and that is where the gamble failed.
It has not paid off this time but what Tottenham have learned from it is that Lucas has shown what a role he can play, while Erik Lamela has proved his worth in a squad role.
Kane will rediscover his form, Alli will be back, and Son will gradually return to his best. This is not a crisis at Spurs, it is just football.
The season is far from over for Tottenham; it is simply not as flawless as it could have been.
