The Saints winger feels his relationship with Mark Hughes has improved greatly thanks to a summer of change.

Nathan Redmond may have been out of the team last season but he’s looking like an integral part of the Southampton side this season.

The 24-year-old leads the way for Southampton when it comes to creating chances; Redmon has created 13 for his teammates this season, according to Squawka – good enough for 14th best in the Premier League and three more than Saints’ next best, Danny Ings.

It’s a role that he appears to be relishing.

“I’m just trying to create as many chances for the team as I can to ensure that we try and win some games,” he said, reports the Daily Echo. “The more chances that we create, the more chances we have of scoring. My job as a winger is to try and participate in as many goals as I can.

“If that’s through goals or assists, then that’s my job.”

Redmond puts his revival down to a summer that saw him change his outlook, as he explains: “I’ve had a summer away working on a few things like my body and I’ve come back feeling more refreshed. I’ve stopped caring about things that don’t necessarily need caring about too much.

“I was left out of the squad a lot last year and I think there were one or two games I wasn’t in the squad when [Mark Hughes] came in.

“I think he realised I wasn’t in a great moment. But I had a conversation with him just before I came back – after he was appointed – and I’ve been continuously talking to him every day to get a feel of what he wants from me.”

His new outlook appears to be working wonders for him and it’s something that Southampton need to take advantage of.

Despite setting up 13 chances this season, Redmond is yet to register his first assist of the year – a pretty damning statistic for Southampton’s forwards.

He’s certainly showing the attitude that his team needs and wants – a similar upturn in form for the front players would help turn Southampton into a decent side.

Hughes himself has spoken openly about chance conversion costing his team this season and he appears to be right – he could use more of his players following Redmond’s suit and delivering far more.
