Reported super agent link is huge risk vs huge reward for Everton

An overhaul is needed at Everton and new director of football Marcel Brands’ suggestion of a partnership with Mino Raiola is a risk they may have to take.

The new director of football Marcel Brands has arrived at Everton from PSV Eindhoven with a plan to move the club forward, and reports back in the Netherlands suggest a big change is happening in how transfers are done.

According to Der Telegraaf {via sportwitness), Brands will be bringing his connection with ‘super agent’ Mino Raiola with him to Everton.

“The first contact has come via Mino, but not for the rest,” said Brands.

“Mino is a good friend of mine. He has been that since my RKC [Waalwijk]-time.”

Raiola certainly has a reputation in football, managing to make very negative headlines with both Manchester clubs this season.

First, the agent reportedly complained to Jose Mourinho about the use of his client Paul Pogba and even suggested to the coach how to play him.

While Pep Guardiola famously revealed that Raiola had offered him Pogba in January, very obviously against the wishes of his current club.

So Raiola isn’t the most trustworthy character to work with – although he will guarantee you access to some of the world’s best players.

Pogba, Marco Veratti, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mario Balotelli and Gianluigi Donnarumma are just some of the names on the books of Raiola right now and while they may not be Everton bound right now, his success at finding the right players early on is up there with the best.

If Everton want to quickly get back on track, working with someone who can give them access to some of the best up-and-coming players around is absolutely ideal – if they can trust him.
