Harry Wilson has spent the season so far at Derby County but Liverpool have the option to recall him in January.
Harry Wilson has been one of the most exciting Liverpool players this season, despite not being at the club.
The Welshman has regularly shone for Derby County under Frank Lampard, scoring some incredible goals this season.
Wilson’s form has led to talk of Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp perhaps recalling the 21-year-old for the second half of the season – something Lampard recently confirmed as a possibility.
“There is an element where Liverpool can call him back in early January,” he said, according to TalkSPORT. “That is a conversation between the clubs.”
But a report from the Liverpool Echo suggests that the Reds will not be exercising that option in January unless there is a major injury crisis at Anfield.
Klopp is said to be ‘delighted’ with how Wilson is coming along under Lampard and seemingly sees no reason to break that relationship up right now.
Liverpool have not quite clicked going forward this season, particularly from midfield, and Wilson’s recent showings in the middle of the park will surely have made him a tempting option for Klopp.
No player has yet stepped up to fill the void left by the injured Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield, but Klopp must see the solution from within, rather than potentially interrupting Wilson’s development.
While Wilson may have been able to make an impact this season, letting him stay with Lampard and Derby is the safest decision for him.
Time will tell if Liverpool could have done with him this season, but Klopp has surely made the right decision for the long-term.
