Ajax supposedly know what they would want from Tottenham Hotspur, or any potential suitor for Frenkie de Jong, as the player gets nervous over Barcelona.

Frenkie de Jong believes Ajax have set a price of €70m for any club that wants to sign the young midfielder, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet understands that several of Europe’s elite are looking at the player, notably mentioning Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

The extent of those heavyweights’ interest is unknown but Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have both been strongly linked for months.

Ajax director Marc Overmars admitted Barca’s interest, while earlier this week the Telegraph reported on Tottenham’s desire to sign De Jong in January.

The hefty price tag might be a spanner in the works for Spurs, who would be required to smash their transfer record to meet it, but the report by Mundo Deportivo does have some good news.

De Jong is apparently growing nervous that Barcelona have lost interest as no one in his camp has heard from them in the last six weeks.

The worry is not without foundation, either, as it has been previously suggested that Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Adrien Rabiot and Paul Pogba with the view to signing two midfielders.

That, coupled with Overmars’ comments about Barca ‘not valuing’ De Jong enough, could suggest that Tottenham have moved into a strong position to sign the 21-year-old – if they can meet Ajax’s price.
