Reports suggest Watford are hoping to loan Divock Origi from Liverpool for the next year.
The Mirror reported on Saturday evening that Watford are hoping to secure a season-long loan deal for Liverpool forward Divock Origi.
That certainly is not the deal that Jurgen Klopp’s side have been looking to complete for their Belgian; they supposedly want to sell him for £27 million.
But with that price looking very high for a player entering the final year of his contract, perhaps Watford’s proposal is ideal for all parties.
Liverpool will not sign off on a year’s loan for a player who can leave for free at the end of it, of course, and their high asking price does suggest that they think there is a very good player in Origi.
If Watford want to give him Premier League football next year, agreeing to a new deal with Origi and seeing what he can do week in, week out in English football could strengthen their position.
Origi would keep his opportunity at Anfield, Watford would get a forward they want, and Liverpool get another look at things in a year. They can either keep him around or sell him from a stronger position, with the player having a longer deal.
It might not have been the original plan, but this could be a better one for all involved.
