No matter who is in charge, Newcastle United have a chance to make the most of a unique Premier League season.
There are only a couple more games left in Newcastle United’s Premier League season and transfer talk is just beginning to heat up.
It was always going to be an interesting window, as World Cup windows are, but this one looks particularly noteworthy once you glance at the bottom of the table.
West Brom, Stoke, and Southampton occupy the relegation zone at the moment, although the latter two will still fancy their chances of catching Swansea, Huddersfield or West Ham before time is up.
Huddersfield aside, it is rare to see those teams in danger as all looked entrenched in the top flight with squads well above where they find themselves.
Their relegation grants an opportunity to clubs and perhaps none more than Newcastle.
The Magpies infamously operate on a small budget despite their size but this could be a summer where that is okay; plenty of established Premier League talent will be available cheaply in a month as clubs are forced to offload, and no one is positioned better than a club the size of Newcastle with a manager like Rafa Benitez.
There will be bargains aplenty and, if Newcastle act quickly, there is every chance they could have a considerably stronger squad in just a few months, chock full of Premier League players desperate to make up for their disappointments this time round.
