Newcastle should finally take a risk this summer with three signings

West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon, Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend and Nice’s Alassane Plea are all reportedly interesting Newcastle United.

Newcastle United are reportedly set to make a second bid for Nice forward Alassane Plea, while talks with West Bromwich Albion have opened over Salomon Rondon, with the Venezuelan being a backup choice to the French forward.

On top of that, the Magpies are interested in bringing Andros Townsend back to the club from Crystal Palace – should Matt Ritchie complete a move away – according to the Telegraph.

All three would be solid signings for Newcastle, begging the question: why not take the risk on the entire trio?

The obvious answer there is simply ‘Mike Ashley’ but if Newcastle are ever going to take a chance on something like this and spend the money required, it needs to be now.

Rafa Benitez is a world-class coach who Newcastle, or at least their fans, feel very lucky to have, but he is not going to be there forever; they need to make the most out of the Spaniard while they can and here is the opportunity.

It is easy to see how they would fit, too, as Plea is certainly capable of playing left-wing, with Townsend on the right, and Ayoze Perez behind the powerful Rondon up top.

That is an attack full of energy, hard work, skill, experience, and pace on each flank – one that few top flight clubs could handle when they are being coached by someone as good as Benitez.

It would take a little bit of money but Newcastle have an opportunity to secure something very exciting for next season, and the risk is well worth taking.
