AC Milan have reportedly made Antonio Conte their favourite to replace Stefano Pioli at the San Siro, with the Rossoneri keen to appoint the Italian despite just beating him in the UEFA Champions League.
According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the Premier League boss is now Milan’s clear favourite to replace Pioli should the reigning Serie A title holders sack their current manager, with the Parma-born coach under pressure from the board and fans after a run of poor form.
Despite winning their last two games and putting Milan in a good position to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the Italian giants are still exploring the options of appointing a new manager in the summer should Pioli leave his position in any capacity.
And with Conte currently set to leave the north London side barring a surprising turn of events in the coming weeks, a return to Italy in the form of Milan makes a lot of sense for the former Inter Milan and Juventus boss, who could be an ideal fit for the Rossoneri.

Indeed, Conte has excelled in Serie A with some of the biggest clubs in the division. And whilst Milan fans might not be too keen on a former Inter manager taking over from Pioli, the Tottenham man’s record in the Italian top-flight speaks for itself.
Milan appointing Conte would be a surprise for many, though, yet given how likely it is that the former Chelsea manager leaves Tottenham at the end of this season, this unlikely marriage could work out in a big way for both parties, with Spurs left to pick up the pieces.
Milan appointing Conte will sting badly for Tottenham more than anybody

A good argument can be made that Tottenham have failed Conte rather than the Italian manager failing at Spurs, and with Milan making moves to appoint the three-time Serie A winner, there’s a good chance that the north London side will feel the pressure from fans for not supporting their soon-to-be former boss.
Success back at the San Siro feels almost guaranteed for Conte at this point. And for Tottenham, they could live to regret not fully backing the one-time Premier League champion given how much good the Italian could have done for Spurs in his 18 months in charge.
