AC Milan have reportedly joined the race to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham, with Aston Villa also keen on landing the England international.

According to Il Messaggero, the Rossoneri will compete with Unai Emery’s side as well as Manchester United for the 25-year-old attacker’s signature, with Abraham expected to leave Roma this summer after two seasons under Jose Mourinho’s watch.

A regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squads, Abraham has had a solid career so far in Italy, guiding Roma to the UEFA Conference League last season and playing a vital role in the club’s push for a top-four finish, though there is a growing expectation that the forward will leave this summer.

Once praised by Jack Grealish as an ‘unbelievable’ player, Abraham seem to be ready for a new change in scenery after two years in the Eternal City, and Milan are now keen to sign the former Chelsea man, though Villa could provide some strong competition.

Indeed, Abraham holds cult-hero status at Villa Park after leading the line in Villa’s Premier League-promotion winning season under Dean Smith, and with Emery now at the helm, the Spaniard could lure the Roma man back to West Midlands.

However, whilst Villa are heading in the right direction under Emery, there’s no denying that interest from Milan could be more alluring for Abraham than a return to the Premier League, with the Rossoneri already looking like early favourites for the Scudetto next season.

With Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic still Milan’s two main striking options, a younger alternative is needed in the red half of the San Siro, and Abraham could be perfect for Stefano Pioli’s side, who could pull out all the stops to beat Villa to the England international.

As we know, Abraham has impressed in Italy since moving to Rome in 2021, and given the stature of a club like Milan, it feels like a natural progression for the striker to sign for the Rossoneri rather than return to England to Villa, even if Emery is taking the Villans into an exciting new era.
