AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal superstar Gabriel Martinelli as a replacement for Rafael Leao, with the Portuguese winger said to be a target for Tottenham in January.

According to CalcioMercatoWeb, the Brazilian international has reemerged on Milan’s radar ahead of the winter market as a potential replacement for Leao, with rumours intensifying that the 23-year-old attacker could leave the Italian giants in the January transfer window.

With a reported release clause of £105m, CalcioMercatoWeb have recently claimed that Tottenham are interested in signing Leao despite Antonio Conte’s abundance of quality attackers in his squad. Yet the north London club moving for the winger could now have huge implications for Arsenal.

Martinelli is regarded by many as one of Arsenal’s best players and a talent who could go on to become one of the best attackers in world football. And with the winger’s contract currently set to expire in 2024, the Gunners are now in a race against time to secure the youngster to a new deal.

Indeed, many Arsenal fans would consider Martinelli as one of their most important players going into the future under Mikel Arteta. Yet losing the winger to Milan in a deal set in a motion by Tottenham would be one of the biggest transfer blows the Premier League leaders have faced in some time.

However, whilst there is a possibility that such a sequence could happen, the chances remain low given how much Leao would cost Tottenham and Martinelli’s current stance that he wants to sign a new contract with Arsenal, even with interest from the likes of Milan.

Martinelli’s contract might be well over 18 months away from expiring, but that doesn’t mean Arsenal should sit back with their feet up as interest from the likes of Milan intensifies over the Brazilian wonder, with the Gunners now needing to do all they can to sign the forward to a new contract.

After all, interest in Martinelli won’t just stop at Milan, and Arsenal must do all they can between now and the January window to sign the 21-year-old to a new long-term contract, with the attacker simply too good to let go at this stage of his career.
