Speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel, Olivier Giroud has been speaking about Newcastle United after the club were taken over.
Newcastle are all of a sudden the talk of the town after they were sold by Mike Ashley and every football pundit and player has been asked to give their view on the takeover.
Giroud was speaking to David Ornstein and he was asked to give his view on the Magpies.
What’s been said?
Giroud gave his view on Newcastle after Frank Lampard was linked with a move to St James’ Park.
“Newcastle has always has been a great club in the Premier League. Obviously, not these last years but maybe 10-15 years ago they were top. I love one player especially — Alan Shearer. But so many great players have played there,” Giroud said.
“Mathieu Debuchy told me it was a great place to play football and the fans are amazing. He would need a good, warm jacket to face the winter there. Joking apart, I think he (Lampard) could be successful there.”
Great first signing
Giroud hasn’t been linked to Newcastle in any way, shape or form, but after reading these comments we can’t help but feel that Giroud would be a great first signing for the Magpies’ new owners.
Giroud is a proven commodity at Premier League level. He consistently scored goals for both Arsenal and Chelsea, and while he’s now 35 years old, he’s as good as ever.
Indeed, he has two goals in three games in Serie A this term, and if United were to look at bringing him back to England he would be a great addition.
Of course, as we say, he’s not been linked so this is nothing but a hypothetical, but the idea of Giroud in a Newcastle shirt would be rather exciting.
