The Austrian believes West Ham United need to learn from the important lesson of last season in the Premier League.

Marko Arnautovic believes West Ham United have to start winning soon if they’re to learn from the lessons of last season.

The Hammers have started life under Manuel Pellegrini with back-to-back defeats, first a 4-0 thrashing away at Liverpool before giving up a 2-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth last weekend.

A lot of players were brought into the club in the summer and they will obviously need time to gel but the Austrian doesn’t think they have got as much time as they think.

“This Premier League is a challenging league and it’s not easy to play, but we’re happy to be here and happy to take this challenge,” Arnautovic told the club’s official website.

“We know it’s only two games in but last season we said ‘It’s only five games in’ or ‘It’s only ten games in’ and we struggled, so we need to pick up as soon as possible.”

Last season saw West Ham lose their first three games – a run that eventually turned into just two wins from fifteen games.

That was enough to see Slaven Bilic out and replaced with David Moyes, although the former Everton, Manchester United, and Sunderland boss was unable to give the club what it wanted as they flirted with relegation for much of the season.

With Pellegrini at the helm, things are certainly more optimistic, although that has understandably been tempered with the poor start.

But Arnautovic is right – if they want to see real progress, making sure the start to this season is better than the last one is the easiest way to do it.
