The Everton boss has made no secret of his desire to sign the player permanently from Barcelona.
Marco Silva has offered up a very encouraging opinion on a potential permanent move for Andre Gomes.
The midfielder is on loan from Barcelona but his performances over the last couple of months have led to calls for him to stick around permanently.
Silva is one of those and he made no secret of his desire to keep Gomes.
“I don’t have doubts about his value,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “He’s a high quality player and anything we can to sign someone like him will be important for us.
“Let’s see in the future what we can do.”
A recent report from The Times claims that Everton believe Gomes wants to stay – obviously a very positive note – but also says that Barcelona would want a fee in the region of £29million, roughly what they paid to sign him from Valencia in 2016.
While paying that kind of money for a player who never really found form at Camp Nou would have been quite a risk, his recent showings make it far more justifiable.
And to help things further, Silva explained that paying a large fee for an important player can sometimes prove to be a ‘cheap’ signing.
“Sometimes in football the most expensive players, maybe in the future they are the cheapest players you can sign,” he said, according to the Liverpool Echo.
“It’s possible sometimes you can sign one player for £5m or £10m, and if he doesn’t play they are really expensive players – and in the opposite way sometimes not.”
Silva is difficult to argue on this one – ask Everton fans if they see more value in the potential £50million fee for Richarlison or the £5million spent on Sandro Ramirez and you’ll find few backing the Spaniard.
If Gomes wants the move and Barcelona have that fee in mind, it looks like Everton will make a move for the player – and you’ve got to say that it’ll be sensible to do so.
