Reports on Tuesday night suggest that Everton are close to securing the transfer of Bordeaux’s Brazilian winger Malcom.

Several reports emerged on Tuesday night, including one from Sky Sports, claiming that Everton are in advanced talks for Bordeaux winger Malcom.

Malcom has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in Europe over the past two seasons and his signature should certainly be considered a coup for Everton.

He was strongly linked with both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur over the course of the January window, only for Bordeaux to refuse any sale halfway through the season.

Spurs would pick up Lucas Moura instead, which appears to have ended their interest, while Arsenal have had a change of plans since Unai Emery replaced Arsene Wenger.

And the change of plans appears to have left an opportunity for Everton to secure a perfect signing for them.

Malcom certainly is not an established star, but he is an exciting one – the kind of player who can inspire exciting football and the exact atmosphere that Everton want right now.

The Toffees want to be a forward-thinking club, both on the pitch and off it, and demonstrating that they can be the right place for such an exciting young talent to develop only increases that.

Everton have long lacked trickery and inventiveness in their attack but they can add that unpredictability here in exactly the way they would want to.

If Malcom is committed to a long stay at Everton, it will make the next few seasons very interesting.
