The 19-year-old goalkeeper is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool but will join Martin O’Neill’s side for games against Northern Ireland and Denmark.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been called up to the Republic of Ireland senior side for their upcoming internationals.

The 19-year-old was a surprise inclusion in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad for the trip to Belgrade in midweek and he has now been included for his national team, too.

Kelleher will be a part of Martin O’Neill’s squad for their friendly with Northern Ireland, as well as their Nations League trip to Denmark on 19 November.

The Irishman is clearly highly rated for both club and country, as seen in the summer when he was handed a new long-term contract at Anfield.

Klopp was reportedly instrumental in that move, according to the Daily Mail, and his progress into the senior side only supports the decision.

Danny Ward of Wales during the International Friendly match between Wales and Spain on October 11, 2018 in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

Kelleher follows somewhat in footsteps of Danny Ward, now of Leicester City, who received his first Wales call-up in 2013 before he made a senior appearance for Liverpool.

Ward would never get a proper opportunity to be first-choice at Anfield before his sale in the summer, however, and that will be where Kelleher hopes their stories differ.

It is certainly a very promising start.
