It was reported on Sunday that Liverpool have denied holding any interest in the Aston Villa midfielder, so could that leave the door open for Tottenham Hotspur?
However, it was not very far into Sunday when further reports from the Liverpool Echo emerged that stated, in no uncertain terms, that Liverpool did not have any interest in the player.
Grealish was highly rated upon breaking through at Villa back in 2014/15 but he saw his reputation slide after that. Last season was a revelation for the player, though, reigniting the hype and leading to the alleged interest from Spurs.
The 22-year-old is certainly very talented and a player Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino could use as he looks for more options – but Liverpool are still right to ignore him.
Despite his suitability to Spurs, he simply is not what is needed at Anfield right now; while Tottenham are looking out for more squad depth in midfield, Liverpool are hoping to find a brighter spark.
Spurs are hoping to add talented players to their squad but without disrupting an already well-oiled attack. Grealish can do that.
He is a young player with limited experience but a lot of talent, and an environment where he is not expected to fire from the off suits both him and Tottenham.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Nabil Fekir showed their aim; while the French international is not really a midfielder, he would be taking the place of one, demonstrating Jurgen Klopp’s desire to inject his first-team with elite creative quality.
Tottenham need more exciting options from the bench and in time Grealish could flourish in North London.
