The Liverpool boss feels his players have shown an ideal mentality at the start of the season.
Jurgen Klopp has hailed the attitude of his players in Liverpool’s official match day program ahead of their Champions League game with Red Star Belgrade.
Liverpool have shown a different side to them this season, as they continuously grind out results despite not looking at their free-flowing best.
The Reds remain undefeated in the Premier League where they sit alongside Manchester City at the top, although the opening day victory against West Ham United is arguably the only time they have looked in peak form.
Klopp, however, says he admires the way his players have handled themselves over the opening months of the season.
“There is so much to admire about how the players have approached these opening months and it is undoubtedly pleasing to be winning with the knowledge that we have more to come,” said Klopp.
“After Huddersfield, the majority of the questions I faced was about winning ‘ugly’ and winning when ‘not being at our best’ – some presented it as a positive and others asked whether it was a concern.
“To be honest it is neither – it is just the situation and it is information.
“This group of players have the laser focus of being successful for our club, our supporters, our team and themselves.”
You have got to believe that Klopp has played a big part in installing that mentality of self-improvement at Anfield.
Always pushing for advantages, no matter how small, has been a staple of his planning – be it playing out from the back, pressing or hiring a specific coach for throw-ins.
In theory, that will help the team avoid complacency this season; something that we may already be seeing.
The team has not looked fluid so far this season, but they have pushed through to secure results in a different area: looking far more solid than they have in years.
While Liverpool’s signings have played a big part, credit for that has to go to Klopp and the mentality of the side.
