Recent reports have linked Atletico Madrid with a move for Napoli’s Jose Callejon but should the Spaniard be a target for Tottenham Hotspur?

The Napoli winger may not have a role to play under new manager Carlo Ancelotti but there would certainly be one for him at Spurs as Callejon ticks a few of their boxes.

Most importantly, Callejon offers goals, pace, and versatility from the right – the sole missing puzzle piece in Tottenham’s attack.
Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Dele Alli all offer goals and creativity from the left and centre but the right side has lacked similar output. Time has surely run out on Erik Lamela’s chances of filling that void judging by the purchase of Lucas Moura in January.

Lucas is yet to make the role his own, understandably needing time to settle and get back up to speed, but Spurs may be wise not to put all of their eggs in that basket. This season feels like a key one for the club, something that years of work under Pochettino have been building to. The key players are approaching their prime and Tottenham can’t afford to gamble entirely on the Brazilian to push them on.
Should he find his feet and get back to his best then Tottenham have a very fine player but Callejon would offer more than just insurance in that position.

The 31-year-old also offers the experience that Spurs lack. Christian Eriksen is the oldest of Spurs attacking players at just 26-years-old and having someone who can offer more in that area could prove vital at times next season.
Those who are still hoping for Gareth Bale likely won’t be enamoured by Callejon but the Spaniard can offer what they need and at a price they can handle.
