Maddison, who joined Leicester City this summer from Norwich City, says Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire convinced him to move to the King Power Stadium.

James Maddison was Leicester City’s move costly signing this summer, joining from Championship side Norwich City for £22million.

The 21-year-old was immediately given a test of his Premier League credentials in the Foxes’ first game of the season – an away trip to Manchester United.

Maddison performed well, however, but he has admitted that his aims go beyond just the Premier League – he wants to play for England and sees Leicester as the perfect pathway after he success of Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy.

“They’re the perfect examples for young players, like me Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray,” said Maddison, reports the Leicester Mercury.

“I’ve been in the England under-21s recently. It’s a big advert for Leicester City, knowing players like Harry and Jamie are in the England set-up and doing so well. It’s a positive.

“That made me want to come to Leicester City, seeing that pathway into the England team. That’s what dreams are made of and that’s what we aspire to be.”

Neither Vardy of Maguire were considered top England calibre before joining Leicester.

Maguire had just been relegated with Hull City when he signed a year ago, although he was certainly one of their better players that year. The 25-year-old made the left side of Gareth Southgate’s back three his own this summer, playing regularly for England at the World Cup.

Vardy, of course, was a non-league player when he joined Championship side Leicester in 2012. His rise has been famously meteoric, and the Premier League champion has since amassed 26 England caps and seven goals.

If Maddison can come close to matching either of his teammates, that will have been £22m very well spent by Leicester.
