Mark van Bommel has very positive things to say about Mauricio Pochettino as his PSV Eindhoven side prepare to meet Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham will travel to Eindhoven to face PSV on Wednesday evening, knowing that they’ll need three points if they’re to face a realistic chance of progressing from the Champions League group stage.

Spurs have begun with defeats to both Internazionale and Barcelona, with both having already beaten PSV, leaving them six points adrift in the group.

And as the two sides prepare to meet, PSV boss Mark van Bommel has spoken very positively of Mauricio Pochettino, going as far as saying that he admires him.

“He’s doing really well, it’s not normal to be so long at a top club,” said Van Bommel, reports Yahoo Sports. “He’s doing a really good job. He did a good job at Southampton before.

“I admire him, to be able to stay with Spurs at the top in England for many years is a great achievement.”

Van Bommel also pointed out one way in particular that Pochettino really stands out, saying: “You can see the Spurs team under Pochettino has a signature – when they come back from their national teams to Spurs they play with Pochettino’s signature.

“He gives the players all they need to play.”

That is certainly a reputation that Pochettino will be glad to have. The way he’s developed the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen into elite players is truly outstanding – and an enormous reason why Spurs can boast such an impressive squad.

It’s also one of the main reasons that Spurs will be so desperate to hold onto him. Pochettino almost guarantees consistency all on his own and his young team appears to be getting better and better.

But like with any top coach, Spurs have got to match his ambition through investment and holding onto talents. All of that surely becomes a lot harder if they fall at the group stage this year.
