Tottenham Hotspur may not have been considered by Rabiot beforehand, but all of a sudden they look a little more useful than Paris Saint-Germain.
Adrien Rabiot has established himself as a top quality centre midfielder over the last few years, although apparently not quite enough to get into France’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament.
PSG is not a club where Rabiot will be a star, not with their love for expensive imports, while also not being somewhere he can prove himself to be a truly elite player.
Barcelona has been suggested as one team he has his eye on – but would he not run into similar problems at the Camp Nou? Instead, Tottenham Hotspur, a club who find themselves at a crossroads as they decide what they want to be, could be perfect.
If Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino gets his way, Spurs will move forward with competitive signings this summer as they begin a focused and sustained assault for silverware, and Rabiot would be ideal.
He would cost a small fortune and take an awful lot of persuasion, as any elite signing would do for Spurs, but he would also represent an improvement on Mousa Dembele at a time when replacing the Belgian is a daunting prospect.
As for Rabiot, he would get to be a star in a young, exciting side, showcasing his abilities on a truly global stage – everything a young player like him should be looking for – while reports of new manager Thomas Tuchel bringing in Julian Wiegl will only make him further doubt his status in Paris.
Whether Tottenham are going to agree to the demand of their manager and seek top players remains to be seen. If they do, though, there is no better place to start than Rabiot.
