Boca Juniors’ huge prospect would surely be the ideal addition to the forward line at Tottenham next season.
It’s not up for debate that Tottenham have put together one of the most exciting attacks in the Premier League – and at incredible value for money – although it’s equally difficult to argue that it’s quite thin.
Attempts to add depth haven’t quite worked out over the last couple of years, with Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente unable to add reasonable backup to Harry Kane, while Lucas Moura has managed just two goals and an assist since joining in January.
The lack of depth has left a lot relying on all of Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-Min; when one of the four is out, gaps appear – a serious problem when trying to compete on multiple fronts.
It may be possible to help add to the creativity of Eriksen and the direct threat of Son in one go, though: Boca Juniors’ Cristian Pavon.
The Argentine was linked with rivals Arsenal back in January, although the club seemingly went in the more proven direction of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
But Pavon could be exactly what Spurs need. The winger is incredibly versatile, able to operate all the way across the front four, while also offering an almost unique reliability – Pavon has played 70 games in a row for Boca despite only being 22-years-old.
His output of goals and assists helped take the Argentinian title to La Bombanera in the last few days and will likely make him one of the Argentine attackers taken to Russia this summer along with Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala.
He’s the perfect age for a Spurs side that has made a name for itself in developing players, while also having both title-winning and international experience.
If Spurs or anyone else wants him, they better strike soon – there could be far more buyers at the auction before long.
