Everton have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Colombian defender Yerry Mina.
The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this month that Everton are interested in signing Barcelona defender Yerry Mina.
Mina impressed for Colombia at the World Cup, alerting teams to his ability at a time when Barca supposedly want to sell in order to make room for Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet.
Despite his performances for Colombia, there are still doubts over Mina’s ability after his poor six months in Spain, having only joined the club in January.
Ernesto Valverde never looked comfortable with the defender and was reluctant to play him due to Mina’s somewhat erratic style.
Everton should be able to look past those doubts, however.
Mina’s World Cup demonstrated his ability to perform in a comfortable team – something he didn’t have at Barcelona; while the rest of the side may have been settled, Mina was a young player in a new country, playing in a high-pressure side that asks a lot of its centre backs.
At Everton, Mina could expect far more protection and time to settle in a side that will be going through a rebuilding process of its own – the Toffees know they won’t be flawless from day one and won’t be asking that of their players.
It’s easy to see why someone with Mina’s pace and power can learn to be an incredible asset in the Premier League and Everton might be the perfect place for him to succeed in Europe.
