Reports in the Netherlands suggest a move for Sporting Clube de Portugal’s Dutch striker is on the cards for Everton.

Dutch outlet AD reported on Monday morning that Everton are monitoring Bas Dost’s situation at Sporting.
It would be a genuine coup for Everton, considering the form of the striker and the interest from Sevilla. New Director of Football Marcel Brands surely plays a part in the interest in his compatriot, while it’s one that could be negotiated should the two clubs sit down over William Carvalho.

But getting it done is only step one of two when it comes to moving Bas Dost and his 30-goals-a-season to your club – you must create him the chances, too, if you want the same player. Dost is a pure finisher, as seen by his incredible record of one-touch finishes over his time with Sporting. In April, Dost ended a run of 64 consecutive finishes with his first touch.
Chance creation has been a real problem for Everton but that should change dramatically now that Sam Allardyce has moved on. Not that it’s as simple as that, of course. Everton’s squad was not the most creative in the first place, somewhat ironically so given that their main problem was signing too many creative forwards.

The unbalanced squad will need changing this season, but the reported outgoings of Davy Klaasen and Wayne Rooney mean creative players must arrive with Dost this summer if Everton are to reap his benefits.
Be it out wide or from midfield, more is needed and the targeting of Dost is surely a sign that this will be a very different Everton next season.
