Ajax’s Argentine full-back has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League in recent days – but with Spurs’ great rivals, Arsenal.

Calciomercato reported recently that Arsenal hold an interest in signing Nico Tagliafico from Ajax.
The Argentine moved to the Eredivisie last January and has slotted in superbly, showing form that saw him rewarded his country’s captaincy in their recent friendlies.
But while he would certainly be a fine signing for Unai Emery’s side, Tottenham Hotspur could be an even more suitable destination.
Spurs notably spent nothing in the summer as they decided to head into the season with the same squad as last year – a risky move at the best of times.
You’d imagine that some sort of signing would be made in January, however, given the inconsistent form so far, and the success of Lucas Moura’s signing at the start of the year.
And if Tagliafico is available, he represents another opportunity to sign a very useful player from Ajax.

Spurs have had incredible success with ex-Ajax players – Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Christian Eriksen all developed there – and there seems to be a real ease in which they adapt to the current Spurs system.
Neither Danny Rose or Ben Davies have made the left back position their own, and that opens the door for Tagliafico to fill a role.
He’s got experience, he’s captained his club and his country, and he’s coming from a place that gels very well with Mauricio Pochettino’s system – not only could he be a good fit, he might even be a no-brainer for Spurs.
