AC Milan’s Portuguese forward was one of Europe’s brightest young talents just a year ago – Tottenham would be the ideal place for him to find his way.

Tottenham have tried two different strategies with their second-choice forward over the past two years – first, there was Vincent Janssen, a young striker with a great goal record in the Eredivisie and, when that didn’t work out, the experienced Fernando Llorente was tried.
Neither gave Spurs what they wanted in an alternative to Harry Kane but there might be an alternative that fits the bill far better.

AC Milan will likely look to offload Andre Silva this summer as they plan another rebuild and the 22-year-old appears to be what Spurs are looking for.
The Portuguese forward has consistently managed a 1-in-2 record everywhere except Milan – be it for Porto in both league and the Champions League or with the Portugal national team.

He was considered one of Europe’s brightest sparks a year ago and his reputation in Portugal is such that, despite a poor season with Milan, he will still be heading to the World Cup this summer.
Silva is more experienced and proven than Janssen ever was, and offers the opportunity to be moulded and developed in a way that 33-year-old Llorente never could.

The latter is an important factor that massively benefits Spurs – this is a team, after all, that is built on raw players who Mauricio Pochettino has developed.
It’s still a risk after his failed season in Milan (although this season’s two standout players suggest you shouldn’t focus on poor spells) but Silva could end up being everything Tottenham need as they look at developing a squad that can compete on several fronts.
